Overview

HGas Calculator is a program that computes optimal pipe sizes for High Pressure Gas systems in commercial and industrial buildings. HGas Calculator sizes pipes or evaluates pre-sized pipes.

Methodology

The equations used in HGas Calculator are the NFPA formulas. The program determines optimal pipe sizes or evaluates pre-sized pipes from 3/8-inch (9.5 mm) to 12-inch (304.8 mm) pipes.

All the information you enter into HGas Calculator is checked for correctness, and the calculated results are returned so HGas Calculator can create formatted, useful output.

The program output will have the exact same results that you would obtain manually. Therefore, the output can be quickly and easily verified by hand so that you can have the utmost confidence and assurance in the program output.

HGas Calculator was designed to size piping using the Longest Length Method or the Branch Length Method as outlined in NFPA– 54.

Program Input

HGas Calculator is a true Windows program complete with toolbars and hyperlinked help and PDF manual. All data is checked during the calculation period.

The type of information required for computations are: type of piping material; type of gas, heating value of the gas in Btu/ft3 (mJ/m3), upstream pressure in psi (kPa), desired downstream pressure in psi (kPa), length of pipe in ft (m), fitting factor in %, and the desired units input in Btu/h (mJ/h). The flow through the pipe will be automatically calculated in cfh (m3/h).

Program Output

HGas Calculator provides a detailed report of the piping computations for review or printing. The information contained in the report is the Upstream Pressure, in psi (kPa), Calculated Downstream Pressure, psi (kPa); Fluid Flow Rate, cfh (m3/h); Inside Pipe Diameter, inch (mm); Nominal Pipe Diameter, inch (mm); and Pressure loss of the pipe, in psi (kPa).

Calculated results are shown on the window for the designer’s or engineer’s use.
